I think I screwed up. I replaced my Geforce 400 MX with a Geforce 5200 Fx but overlooked uninstalling the drivers for the 400 before I installed the drivers for the 5200. I seem to be experiencing some occasional weird video behavior and but nothing too bothersome. At first in the add/remove there were both video cards showing. One was Nvidia display driver for the 400 and nvidia 5200 fx for the 5200. I decided to uninstall both and redo the installlation for the 5200. Everything seems to be there except that in add/remove it now just shows nvidia display driver which was for the 400 card and if I try to remove it windows says error and it was already removed but it's not showing the 5200 even though all the stuff for it is on the computer. anyone have any suggestions on how to redo this video card replacement from scratch and get it right? any help would be appreciated. thanks

First go to Add Remove programs and choose "remove from this hardware profile".Make sure the drivers are deleted from both cards.

Power down the computer and remove the video card, preferably to another slot.If no slot is avialable, reseat the card.

Power the computer back up, and when prompted, point to the location of the software driver (hopefully on CD)

You need to get Windows to recognise the card as if you were installing it for the first time ith no drivers.

do your "add/remove" from safe mode. Check Device Manager while in safe mode to see what display adapaters are listed...remove ALL of them. Reboot & install the new drivers. Read this 1st:

Thanks for the suggestions. I think windows cabbed the files because after I uninstall the drivers and reboot windows says it found new hardware and installs the drivers on its own before I can install them from the cd. Everything seems to work ok except my links2003 game where the player image breaks up. I wonder if this is a windows 98 memory issue caused by 512ram and 128 video ram. Before I had 256 ram and 64 video ram. Everything else seems ok.
