I have just bought a Western Digital 250GB SATA2 Hard Drive. I already have 2 IDE drives installed, one of which holds an installation of XP. The problem i'm having is booting from the SATA drive. I installed the SATA drivers during the installation of XP onto the SATA drive (F6 at the beginning of installation...) and have plugged the drive into CH_0 (onboard sata1 controller).
The problem im getting is that when i try to boot from the sata drive (IDE drives are unplugged) i get a message saying the NTLDR is missing. I don't understand this - how can it be?! If i plug the IDE drives in again (both of them) then the NTLDR is obviously found from one of the IDE drives. This allows me to pick the XP install i wish to load from the boot list. When i do get into the SATA XP system, everything is extremly slow.
Any help on this would be appreciated - i'm a bit lost as to what to do. I've tried unplugging and removing the IDE drives completly so it has nowhere else to look; i've messed about with boot orders in the BIOS, even trying the SCSI option and all HDD options, but nothing seems to work - it just won't boot from the sata drive!
