Notebook to Flat-panel LCD

Comment:
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook and an Olevia 32' Flat-Panel LCD HDTV connected with 15-pin VGA cable.
I cannot achieve a display resolution greater than 800 x 600. Actually this is the only resolution that will work. My notebook display looks good @ about 1280x800 and I would like to have the LCD use this same setting, or something similar (1280x768).
I know this is possible b/c about a year ago with this same exact set-up I was using a Dual Monitor Display setting with Notebook @ 1280x800 and LCD @ 1280x768, w/ no problems.
But this was several operating systems ago and many different driver installs.
I will be here refreshing the post for responses so if anyone is listening and willing to help I am here.
