Subject: NoteBook memory slot issue
OS: Vista-Home-P
CPU/Ram: Core-Duo-2
Model/Manufacturer: HP-dv9543cl
Comment:
Can someone help me with my newly purchased Notebook?

Purchased dv9543CL with 2GB RAM (1GB in each slot). When i insert sticks in both the slots the it doesn't boot (Infact it starts booting but then gets stuck at some point and nothing shows up on the screen ever, i see some lights on the base but then screen remains blank. the Speaker Mute light remains RED).
If i remove the memory from the top slot, it boots up nice and it works (With 1GB). I checked both the RAMs and they are both fine. Do you know what could be a problem here? Either dry solder on the slot or BIOS settings?

any help would be appreciated..

If you purchased the Notebook with the RAM installed was it running at that time? If so, this is a warranty issue. Why are you removing RAM?

it was running initially but i never checked the size of the RAM reported. instead of 2G it reported 1G. I talked to the CST in HP and they said to open the box behind and check the RAM. The RAM stick was almost out of the slot so i pressed it and since then it doesn't boot. If i remove the RAM it boots and works fine..

The RAM slot or the module may be damaged. Don't mess with it. RMA the unit back to HP. Be sure to copy any personal files, even if they just plan on fixing it. They will no doubt wipe the drive and restore to factory condition.
