Hey guys. I just purchased a new Toshiba Tecra A8-S8414 (PTA83U). I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my graphics card seeing as it is a notebook computer instead of a desktop. It currently has a built in intel 945GM GPU.

So basically im just asking if it is possible to upgrade my graphics as i want to be able to play video games and i cannot currently do this. If i can upgrade my graphics, what type of graphics card can i use and where can i purchase it? Thanks for all the help!

Ryan

No, you cannot upgrade the graphics. If you wanted a gaming laptop/notebook, that's what you should have got:

Toshiba Gaming Notebooks

Dell Gaming Notebooks

Notebook Graphics Benchmarks

I think Dell had a laptop that you could upgrade from a Geforce 2 400 to a Geforce 2 GT (both mobile editions) but since then I haven't seen another that offers this. If you really want you can take your laptop to bits and see if it has a removable graphics card or at least a slot for one, but be warned taking laptops apart is a lot easier then putting them back together.
You can buy a PCMCIA video card, but they are really intended for laptops that need another video out and I have no idea how powerful they are (guessing = rubbish)
Else it looks like you'll have to take your laptop to a PCB fab-plant and have them solder a new GPU on...
