Alright I am very fluent when it comes to knowledge on Desktop computers, but I know absolutely nothing about Notebooks. I have been stuck with the task of buying 2 notebooks for my company.

First off, I have heard all though centrino technology is new, it still has not been proven to be any better then P4 technology. Centrino comps are basically a seal put on comps that use all Intel parts in order to boost intel sales, so its mainly marketing. This true?

Two, who makes the best Notebooks? I am thinking of buying two 17 inch Sagers from Powernotebooks.com because they seem like great deals. I can spend around $1,700.00 each. Sagers anygood, or any other suggestions?

And three, Is there anything I should steer clear of? I would like to try and get a notebook that does not have an integrated video card that shares RAM because it slows computers down so much.

Please respond, thanks.

I "think" the main advantage of Centrino is that the processor speed is varied according to the task. This is done to prolong battery life. Don't know much else about them. All notebooks have integrated graphics. That shouldn't be a problem, considering the tasks usually performed on laptops. Just get a little more memory to start. As far as what to steer clear of, I would get up to speed on the processors designed for, and used in, laptops. I think there are some machines out there that are using desktop chips in them to save money. I'm not sure of that, but lately there seems to be a rash of overheating problems. Notebook chips are more expensive that an equivilent desktop chip. They are designed to run cooler and use less power. Intel's offerings can be confusing. Many different processors with similar names and numbers.

Centrinos also have a 1MB power managed L2 cache, instead of the 500kb cache of the p4. This makes it much faster than its Ghz rating.

as far as i know centrino is all about saving power. it has longer battery life, and manages power better - one way is havinga larger cache, so the p4 performs as well as a higher one, but with less heat. i'd go for a centrino because normal laptops have awful power management and battery lives these days.
