Comment:

I have this gateway that I have been using for almost a year now. It's been a good pc except for a problem I just started having sunday.

It will not pick up any sort of USB storage. I have tried multiple installs of Windows XP Pro and reinstalled Server 2003 and I get the same problem.

"USB Device not Recognized"

I have tried this in ubuntu 7.1? and it will not recognize the drive. Normally, when I plug the drive in, Ubuntu automatically mounts it.

I have tried both external drives and a USB flash key in multiple different computers and the work fine.

I'm also using a USB nic on the computer and it works fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you looked in Device Manager to see if the USB controllers are working properly?

Is the USB NIC connected to a USB port that is integrated right onto the back or the MBoard?

Are the ports that don't work front ports or rear ports on brackets as opposed to integrated?

Have you installed the MBoard chipset drivers?

What SP are you running?

Did you check your BIOS settings to see if USB of all sorts is disabled there ?

Device manager (on multiple windows XP and server 2003) reports that it is working fine. USB Mouse works fine, USB NIC works fine.

USB is enabled in the BIOS.

Running SP2

I had the motherboard chipset drivers installed before - they were installed before I started having problems with USB storage on the machine.
