Not reading some disks any more. Please help!

Im running Windows Vista. recently, my cd rom stopped reading most disks. It plays older games and dvds, but not newer ones, which it used to before. No settings have been changed that I am aware of, and several virus scans, including norton, have found nothing. everything else seems normal. The disk spins, and it seems the pc is searching for it, but it never recognizes that anything is there.
