Not bootable from Xp CD

Specs: Windows XP
Dearest,

Thank you for your offered time. I am experiencing some problem with re-installing Xp on my older Laptop.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 1400. I have re-installed Windows Xp Pro many times before, using the same disc. Always worked for me, and as I test it on other systems it proves the disc is still functionable. Yet, the Acer Aspire 1400 doesn't want to read the disc. Even when I'm in Windows, it tries hard to read the disc but is unable to do so.

I have set the BIOS to prioritize the booting of the CD-disc, before booting the hard-drive, but so far no luck.

It is a copy of my Xp disc (since my original had a huge scratch). The copy is a CD-R disc, which should normally be recognized by the Laptop (if I'm not mistaking).

I hope someone knows what is causing this problem, and how I can resolve it.

Thanks in advance!

Your sincerely,

Nicolas De Letter

You can try running a lens cleaning disk in the drive but if that does not resolve the reading problem then replacing the CD Drive is your only option.

Thank you for your quick response.

To clarify: the laptop does read discs. It just doesn't read this disc when trying to boot from it when starting the laptop.

Could the problem be the disc, which is a CD-R? Or, should the laptop be able to read that disc?

Thanks in advance!

I had a problem with a dvd reader, reading some disks & not others.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.
