After optimizing my hard drive using Norton speed disk that came with Norton System works i decided to check if it realli does defrag. So i went and launched the normal windows defragger. I noticedthat after the normal defragger analyzed my drive it had alot of red areas (which is bad) is that normal. Did norton speed disk screw up my drive or is this supposed to happen? Can someone tlel me what is going on?

Hi,

I believe the two softwares operate under two different principles. So, no matter which one you use, the other is going to show different results.

You are better off using one or the other. Personally I use the XP defrag program and not Norton.

I agree with Ken, especially so when it comes to NTFS. Each has its own way of doing things so you cannot mix and match. Personally I use Norton.

HI all
if xp defrag similar to me the" red areas (which is bad)" the red is the directories, there for you had better hope you have them.

Topfarmer: You are wrong. Because after defragging, the red areas dissapear. Also, after using norton i noticed that my system performance had decreased

I have used both Xp Defrag and Norton Speed Disk part of Norton Utilities 2002.
Everything that I have read on the utilities, Red indicates an area that can't be moved, it might be your page file or parts of certain programs that are not movable.
Both programs seem to work ok on my NTFS file system and they do organize items in different orders.
