Nokia 7250i data cable usb

recently purchased a 7250i data cable from the market in the bullring in birmingham anyway the came in a 6630 case but the guy sez all connections are the same so ok fair enough got it,it took it home installed it connected it to my phone ok but when i came to retreive the pics form my phone it diddn't bring up anythin with the software on the cd so went to the nokia website and found the update removed the previous version installed the update& the drivers 4 the usb cable but even though it all connected it sez in the software conncetion bit not connected & and somet to do with the device not being regognised looked in my usb hardware devices and the device came up as unkown asked my pc to seach but found nothin ive tried it on my bros pc and the same happens wouldn't have thought that USBs can go corrupt or anythin so i am at a loose end wit it any thoughts
