Comment:

I posted yesterday as my PC has been groaning now for approx 2wks.
I have taken the side casing off and tried to determine where the noise is coming from
I suspect it is the PSU now and was wondering if these are easy to replace and how I can find out what PSU is installed in my PC at the moment
Thanks

The specifications of the powersupply are usually on a sticker or plate attached to the side of the powersupply. You can either buy a replacement powersupply or if you have the necessary equipment, open up the PSU and replace just the fan. Usually PSU fans are hard wired in and you would have to cut the wires and re-join the new fan in by soldering. you would have to be careful to insulate the joints against shorting out.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

PSU's are very easy to replace. Your PSU should have a label on one side that will say what form factor is is. (most PSUs are ATX, microATX, but your's may still be different).

The label will also say how many watts the PSU is, you will need to get a replacement with at least that amount.

You have an old system, so you will not need much power, so a replacement won't break the bank

Don't put a question here? lol

Realistically, how long are you gonna hold on to that system? Is it worth investing $40-50? I would just remove the PSU, carefully open it up, blow out all the dust, oil the fan bearing, put it back together, & put it back in the case.

This space for rent
