I have a new proline 2.6 gig P4. It has 2 fans. The one in front sucking in air is really irritating. The Shop says this is normal. Can I dissconnect the front fan?

Run your computer for a while - at least an hour - then take a look in your bios at the current CPU and inside the case temperatures. Disconnect the front fan, run the computer another hour, check again - if temps are still well below maximums you're fine.
By the way, the best place to put a case fan is on the back of the case - you may not notice the noise as much if it's there.

You could also buy a quieter case fan. Some power supply fans will auto run at a reduced speed if the PS is not fully loaded.

good advice there from Mike for just about anyone. The cpu and power supply fans are critical but anything after that produces diminishing returns on its noise so recording the temp impact of each fan as he suggests is a good exercise.
