All of a sudden there is no video at all on the monitor. I have changed monitors, cables, put in a new pci video card, the original is on board, can't turn it off because there is no video to see what I'm doing in bios, tried new memory, powers up good so I don't think it's the power supply.
Hewlett Packard 4533.

Anybody know what I can try?

Thanks

Probably your AGP card is bad. If you remove it and try using the PCI instead, it is possible your BIOS will use the PCI card. Some will do that without any BIOS changes if there is no AGP card. Other BIOS may not. But most BIOS will automatically use the AGP if both are in the system.

Since removing the AGP card is the one thing you did not do, I would remove it, and try everything else with only the PCI card - monitor change, cable change, etc...

If you do not get the initial beep, then your system is dead. The CPU has to be running to display anything. It could be a bad motherboard or CPU. To confirm that, disconnect all the drives and pull all the cards. if the speaker is connected, you should get a beep if the motherboard and CPU are ok.

Hi Dave.

Your CMOS battery may be dead.

This article says an older computer won't even boot if the CMOS battery is dead.

They last 3 to 5 years and have to be replaced.
