The system needs to be running to get any video out. Did you possibly install a motherboard mounting stud in the wrong place?

Please specify specific brand of motherboard. If you are using a BIOS created by AWARD. There should have been audbible beep codes.....

You replaced the MBoard with a non Compaq model and you are using the original Compaq harddrive with Windows on it. How far does the computer get into the POST before stopping? You problem MAY be that the version of Windows on the harddrive is licenced to only run on that compaq computer. Windows now sees a different set of hardware and refuses to run.

Hello Brad, I had a similar experience, and all the time it was bad RAM. Try insterting a new stick of RAM and see what happens.

Try booting to a bootable CD or floppy. This will tell you if your memory IS in fact the problem. I told you what I thought was the problem.

A computer can't run without ram. That is like a car without gas.

h3h_timo,
Hello, this is Mike with Mach Speed. I saw your post, there is a good possibility the CPU does not match with your board. Please post the model # of your board and model of CPU (Specifically if the CPU is a prescott 1MB cache CPU or celeron D CPU)
I would also make sure you have all power connections plugged in, usuaally 3 on a P4 board.
You may also contact out Tech support dept at 580-272-0035 and they can walk you through it. Hope this helps. Mike
