Here is my problem, I'm getting no video display through my AGP graphics slot. I think I know the problem but I'll like some info from more then one source before I buy another mobo. I've tryed many different video cards but still non of them worked. If I take out the battery on the mobo so it reset the bios it does work again but not to long.

Also I have tryed switching ram no luck, haven't tryed any other cpu's because I don't have any extra lying around. The PSU is a good brand name also fairly new (thermaltake 420 watts) I believe. I tryed formatting but it came up with an error saying that most recently installed hardware/software is causing this problem and windows will shutdown to prevent damage.

I'm thinking the motherboard is gone or about to go so I was thinking of just buying a new cheap one from online somewhere but If anyone has any other idea's please post them all help is very appreiated.

Thanks for reading, replying and helping.

have you tried flashing you bios to a newer version? I know you have reset it but, the newer agp card may not be recognized by the bios version you have. at least try that before replacing it. also make sur the bios settings for the agp port are setup right in the bios

okay, I just went and reset the bios to get the display back on witch work for about 3 minutes. I was able to get to the desktop for a little bit but then the display went. When I do start my computer up it does say press F2 to flash but I don't know how to flash the bios. Could you point me in the right direction in where to get the newest bios. Sorry but I still kinda learning everything about computers. Thanks.

Bios isn't going to fix this, why add more frustration.
If you have tried more than one viodeo card and get the same results ther are only 2 possibilites.
1) the cmos battery (round battery on the mb)
is not holding the settings and if board is 5 years old it is time to replace it.
2) That not being the answer replace the motherboard.

Flash went fine but didn't fix the problem. I'm gonna go down to my local computer store monday and see if they have any motherboard batteries for sale, or any extra ones lying around and see if that works. If that fails safe to say its the mobo?

You can also find the battery at your local Rite-Aide or Walmart. Take out the battery in your board so you can take it with you. I've gotten the battery from Rite-Aide and it's still doing the job. It's been over a year now.

Well it wasn't the motherboard, sad to say. But what i've done now is started from ground up, I unplugged everything and then plug one thing in at a time, which didn't resolve anything. So now I have taken the old ram, psu, motherboard, video card, soundcard, cd-rom drive, hardrive and floppy drive and put in ones that I know work.

So now I have come to the conclusion that the only thing left that must be causing this problem is the processor. The only thing is that I don't have an extra one lying around to try. My question now is if I buy a new processor and if that doesn't fix the problem can I bring it back. I know I can bring the mobo back but is the cpu the same deal or once you open it you own it? I don't want to bring it to a certified tech for him to find out the problem and cost me 100$ in labour charges plus additional cost for the item/items I need to fix it.

Thanks, dave.

ps. If you have any other idea's to help solve my problem please post them, thanks again.

Opps, after I switched the ram, video card etc for 100% working parts it didn't fix the problem. Thought I should clear that up incase someone got a little lost reading that end part in the first paragraph.
