hello all
i have a problem with the sound not working when windows xp starts up, there is no speaker icon on the taskbar it's checked in audio options but no sign of it on the taskbar, when you log on, the sound is not there. this all happened when i uninstalled nero from add/remove i know the registry/regedit very well but i was a bit tired, in registry i removed the nero files in hot key local machine and removed nero from hot key current user but i think some part of nero was a shared file. have you any ideas how to recover the speaker icon to the taskbar. i never use sys. restore because of malware and spyware integrate into it when you have it active so i cant go back. any help on this problem would be very appreciated... hank...

I had a similar problem. Where my system did not show any sound card and speaker icon in the system tray. First of all look up in device manager if you have a sound card in the hardware list if not then use Add hardware wizard from control panel and install the sound card manually and then I install the sound card driver. I hope it does the trick for you.
You can also use system restore utility to roll back you system to previous date before you uninstalled Nero.

In your Sounds and Multimedia, have you checked the box to have the volume control show on the system tray?
