Turned my Desktop on today, and NO SOUND. Last time I used it was a month ago..and It had sound at that time. I checked and double checked everything. No x by sound card, everythings plugged in, Nothing has been muted. I know my speakers work because I plugged them into a portable CD player. I tried plugging in headphones into the tower port..but nothing happens. Nothing plays. No static, no nothing. Has my sound card gone bad? I am NOT a computer wiz, so if you have a suggestion, please give simple instructions. I've been researching for 12 hours now and so far, I cant find any fix. Yes, I did a system restore, re-installed the original software, checked wires, checked mute buttons, checked DXDiag, where it says everything is working properly, but when it asks me if I can hear the sound, I cant. Volume is up, no error messages ( except for DxDiag when I replied I coudn't hear anything) I hear nothing on CD's. I can see the sound spikes as it's playing, ....... but No sound. Ni Windows sounds, no wav sounds, No nothing.
I have a 2005 Dell Precision Workstation 370 Mini tower Pent 4 processor. My purchase receipt shows:
SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 (D), PCIw/DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1/EEE1394 a/DVD-AUDIO/114dB SNR/6.1, DELL PRECISION

So what do you think??? I use my laptop 99% of the time, but started the desktop to transfer data to it as backup. That's when I notice no Windows opening sound when the screen came up.

Thanks for your help......... if you can
