No sound

After re-installing windows i noticed my computer had no sound. I found in device manager ac-97 code 10 cannot start i fixed that by re-instaling the driver for it. But still i have no sound. When i go into sounds and audio devices everything is greyed out and unsellectable. I ran dxdiag and came with this error DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver). I dont know wat else to do or what driver to re-install can someone please help

Since XP was released in 2002, the drivers on the CD are 5 yrs old. We can't help you find the correct drivers without knowing the make/model of your machine or at least the make/model of your motherboard.
You'll need to download & install drivers for the motherboard chipset, video, sound, LAN, etc.
