Did you re-enable onboard sound in the BIOS?

Code 10
If the device has a "FailReasonString" value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator places this registry string value there. If there is no "FailReasonString" in the hardware key, the following generic error message is displayed:

This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device.
Solution button: Update Driver

To resolve this error code, make sure the device is connected to the computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully and that all adapter cards are properly seated. Follow the suggested solution button and update the device driver. It may be possible to remove the device and redetect it using the Add New Hardware wizard.

Is there by any chance a jumper on the mobo to enable/disable onboard sound.

Also installing *ALL* drivers for *CURRENT* o/s must be done.

Had a similar problem recently, in that I could not find W2K drivers for a crystal onboard chip. The pc manufacturer (Fujitsu) originally supplied them for W98 but provides no download upgrade help.

In the end, it was easier to use a separate card which installed and worked wihout problem.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I have the same exact problem, i upgraded my onboard to a sound card and ever since then my onboard sound, and my front panel usb and media card reader dont work. the only thing i can come up with is a driver loss (im not sure how that happens, but i guess it can) and even turning the onboard back on in the bios didnt make it work.

I say get a crappy sound card out of anything and stick it in there, it would still prob be better than onboard anyways
