No Sound

CPU/Ram: XP 2500+/512mb

i have purchsed the asus a7v600 motherboard which is meant to come with onboard sound. i have installed the sound max software but i still get no sound from my speakers. the device manager says that the sound should be present. sound maxs website says that some asus motherboards didnt have their jumper settings on correctly when shipped altho i cant find anything about how they are meant to be put on.

please help

have you checked the BIOS to make sure onboard sound is enabled?. i know it should be but a while back i bought a new ASUS mobo and spent ages trying to get my joystick to work only to find that the port was disabled in the bios ---- eventually.
Also click on Start, then Run, type in DXDIAG and run it. go to sound / music tabs. run tests , does this show any problems or does it seem to state on screen that all is ok.
