Your monitor speaker is connected with a cable to the sound output ports. If you want to use both an external and monitor speaker you will need to get a splitter for the cable and send the signal to both.

Where did you get the update? Have you used the Realtek audio manager to configure the sound ports. They won't work until you do.

Do you have an Orange speaker icon in the tray by the clock? Use that to setup the ports. Your sound may also be muted.

Another possibility is your sound drivers somehow got corrupted. If that's the case, reinstalling them should correct it.

jam, whenever you update the drivers you need to reconfigure the ports.

If you see the equalizer working then you have the sound muted somewhere. If you have a sound icon in the tray open it and look for a checkmark somewhere for mute.

If your keyboard has sound controls be sure they aren't muting the sound.
