No Sound on DVD's from DVD Rom drive

Having recently built a new PC using a Chaintech board,I installed a new Lite-On 16x DVD-Rom. It will play audio CD's no problem, but will only play the film from a DVD - no sound. I've installed PowerDVD on the PC (its the only DVD software on)Have tried various cables, set-ups etc.Any ideas? Could it be the drive. Thanks in advance!
