Subject: No sound from speakersOS: windows XP ProCPU/Ram: p4 2.0a/512 |
Comment: I just installed XP on a new system. Everything works perfectly except the sound system. I have verified the speakers work, have all the correct drivers installed, XP says the sound system is working correctly, no error messages, Xp identifies the sound card but I still can not hear any sound. I have removed and reinstalled the drivers. I am thinking it is a hardware problem like something wrong where the speakers plug into the motherboard. Any suggestions?

Reply: (edit)Had the same problem...and I hope your solution was as simple as mine.....I tried everything you mentioned above with no luck and then I looked about 18" up the speaker wire and found several bite marks, courtesy of a 12wk. old Rott pup! Check the speaker wire!

Reply: (edit)Try installing a sound card. Motherboard sound adapters seem to be very failure prone.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the assistance. I can play sounds from the control panel but no actual sounds come from the speakers. As far as XP is concerned, everything is working perfectly. There are no sounds coming from the speakers and I am positive the speakers are working. I tried several, anyway. Do the motherboard soundcards fail frequently?

Reply: (edit)Can't say I have personally had any more problems with onboard sound compared to other components. What sound chip is your board using. I know this may sound silly but play about with the balance on the volume control.

Reply: (edit)Or control panel> sounds and audio devices > speaker volume.. and set left low right high and vice versa.

Reply: (edit)I will try it. I am not at the machine. I really dont think that is going to work. I am constantly building machines and I have never seen this problem but I do know the speakers work excellent. I tried plugging in headphones into the cd player and could not hear sounds from there either.

Reply: (edit)As I said I know it sounds stupid but I have experienced this before on more than one occasion, unfortunatley couldn't be arsed to dig deeper and check whether it was the way the speakers were setup I was just glad to turn the job around and get it out of the shop lol
