Subject: No signal to monitor or keyboard.OS: Win XpCPU/Ram: 3GhzModel/Manufacturer: IBM ThinkCentre |
Comment: My PC normally works fine unitl yesterday I tried turning it on and I'm getting no signal to the monitor or keyboard. I disconeccted the power and tried again and it booted properly. But now its happening again but now soon as I turn it on the fan at the front of the PC runs really high making a loud noise and I get no power to the monitor or keyboard. The cd drives open. I have tried reconeccting all power sockets on the motherboard and hardware. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Those of us who answer can't be familiar with every computer model name or series name and whether it is a desktop or a laptop - please state what it is when you post. Apparently a ThinkCenter is a desktop or tower computer. It sounds like you have a failing PS. It is quite possible and common for a failing PS to partially work but to not allow the computer to boot. To open/close the CD drive tray only requires that the power connection to them is receiving power - that much of the PS is working. The fans may receive power and spin as well. See the latter part of response 4 in this: http://www.computing.net/hardware/w... The "overtop" Setup part does not apply to you.
