Comment:

This week I'd purchased the WD2500 hdd for my asus board a7v8x.
Then I found that the new disk has been recognised by the BIOS when booting up.
But only 131GB of the 250GB is found when installing the server sw.
It seem that the current bios does not support that big volume so far.
How to proceed next, is there an bios update that solves this issue?

Pal..try the following areas

A)Start>Control Panel>Performance & Mainetenance >Admininstration Tools >Computer Management.

Then select the Disk Management sub category.

You will then see the current disk structure, with used space, and unformatted space.

Simply right click this unformatted space, give it a drive letter and format it.

Then it will appear in My Computer, ready to be used.

B)Maybe windows doesn't have the upto date ATAPI.sys driver, so you are required to install the updates SP1 or SP2 before you can see the rest of the space.

C)131GB was the limit to the OS you have, the rest should be noticed as unallocated.

D)Check the Azus website for SATA/IDE drive Bios updates.Old motherboards sometimes need a BIOS update to get the 137 GB barrier.Meaning hard disks over 137 GB to be recongnised need BIOS updates.

E)If possible obtain another hard disk.Install SP2 since this will enable LBA 48BIT addressing which will break the 137GB barrier

F)Try to enter the HD value in manual model in the BIOS,if applicable, otherwise set it at "AUTO".

G)Make the SATA/IDE controller on the board as "LARGE".

Hope the following areas you can give a shot.Take care.Post your reply

Vist the above site.It is the driver updates.Download the manuals and choose the correct driver for your Motherboard.

"I found that the new disk has been recognised by the BIOS when booting up"

Go to the Asus site listed above & download BIOS version 1014 or beta version 1015.003 along with version 2.21 of the DOS flash utility. Copy them to a bootable floppy, boot off it, & perform the flash from DOS
