Have just bought a new Acer computer. I know this sounds crazy but there is nowhere to plug in my printer. Is my printer so old that its plug is out of date?

You will need to use a parallel-to-USB adapter (e.g., check out this one: I believe this is like the one you will need, but check to make sure it will fit the parallel port on your printer. From there, you plug the other end into a USB port on your new PC, set up the printer, and you should be ready to print.
