Comment: On my sons laptop when he starts up it is coming up with a message saying 'primary hard disk drive not found' and no bootable device selected. Will not start in safe mode either. Can anyone help as i don't know what the problem could be.

Reply: (edit)Does the drive show up in the bios? Did this problem just start out of the blue or did you recently do something to the laptop like install a new drive?

Reply: (edit)The problem is 'primary hard disk drive not found' - if the computer cannot find the hard drive, then it cannot find (let alone start) Windows Either the hard drive has died or somehow become disconnected, or else the machine has lost the hard drive settings in the BIOS To check the settings, invoke the CMOS setup Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie!'... till you can find a rock

Reply: (edit)The drive does not show up in bios. Yes it did just happen out of the blue, as i was in the middle of defragmenting his files and it just shut itself down. No new drivers had been installed. Where do i find the hard drive and how do i go about CMOS setup.
