Hi, I turned off my computer one night and the next morning it would not turn on.
I checked all cables and tested Power Supply on another computer. I didn't have any other RAM(not needed to boot or get power right?) or CPU of that type to test them. I replaced the Motherboard and Video Card, still the same.
I don't even get a light or short power noise when I plug in the power cord. The only things I haven't tried are the CPU and the LED power button cable and Board in the PC case(if that is even a possible problem?). Thanks, Aaron

you definitely *DO* need ram to boot.
If the ram was the problem and you left it out, but everything else was fine, you would normally get beeps from the computer to warn you of lack of ram.

Even with no memory installed, you should get the power light on your mobo and the BIOS will give you several complaint beeps.
You are complaining of no power at all, right?Check your on/off switch on the front of the case: follow the cable back from the switch on the front of the case, to where it plugs into the mobo. Pull off the plug (it's tiny so be gentle), revealing two contacts.
Make sure the power supply switch is on; then take a screwdriver and short the two small contacts on the mainboard. If your unit powers up, you have a bad switch. If nothing happens, it's got to be the mainboard or the power supply.

Hi, I do get a little green light on the Motherboard, but no fans, LED lights, or beeps or noises. My power supply doesn't have a power switch, but it did power up my other system. My power button on the front of the case has a cable going to the control panel where there is a couple of front usb and headphone places, then a usb cable connect to the motherboard. Thanks, Aaron.

"My power button on the front of the case has a cable going to the control panel"
That doesn't sound right at all. Are you sure that's the power button? Normally the wires from the power button go to the motherboard like Ranchhand said. The power switch tells the motherboard to power up. Then the motherboard tells the power supply to switch on.

There is another cable coming from the control panel, maybe it's the audio cable for the headphone input. So there is only two cables running into the motherboard from the control panel that I can see. There are to empty jumpers, one is a four prong and the other is a five prong. Just one cable goes from the power button chip to the control panel chip.

Well, that's beyond me. I have never heard of anything like that. Of course I don't work on Dells.
If you replaced the Dell motherboard with generic one, that might be a complicating factor. Dell has used proprietary motherboards and power supplies.

Well, I think the motherboard is identical to the old one. I'm in the process of replacing the power button and data cable, if that doesn't do it then I have tried everything but the CPU.
What is the barebones setup that I can boot with? CPU, Graphics Card, and Power Supply?
