Hi, my computer has no power to it at all.

It has been dormant for about a week, unplugged, with no power supply and all cables disconnected.

When I fitted everything back, I cannot get the power to turn on.

The power suppy I am using is originally from this machine so there's not a compatibility issue.

The power is connected, both at the mains, the power supply has its switch turned on, and the power to the motherboard is connected.

There are no other obvious places where the power needs to be connected to the mother board. I cannot remember any other connections which I took out.

The power supply works in another computer. All I did to test this was attach the power to the motherboard on another PC, and put the mains cable into the back of the power supply. This made the fan spin, and the power to the computer came on.

This establishes that the power supply isn't faulty.

I changed the RAM into another slot because I noticed one of the clips on the original slot it came in was loose. There may have been minimal contact between my hands and the motherboard.

The switch at the front of the PC has all the wires connected and they aren't loose. The wires from the switch are connected to the motherboard, so power is connected from the front power switch to the board.

Could the motherboard be comprimised? The test I have done to rule things out of the equation initially point to a problem with the motherboard.

How easy is it to damage the circutry on a motherboard?

Could the front power switch be faulty? It is connected, but I cannot physically see if the power button is touching the connection, although it was working fine when I stopped using the computer.

Any ideas? Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Alex

Just FYI, the power supply needs a `Power Good' signal back from the motherboard or it will not stay powered up.
Also, a short in any of the drives will prevent power from coming up.

Thanks for your response. When you say a short in any of the drives, do you mean like the floppy disk and cd-rom?
