Okay, so here's my problem. My computer won't start up at all, there is absolutely nothing happening when I press the power button. I'm trying to find out what is wrong, but I am stumped. I tested out the power supply on another motherboard, didn't work. I tested it out on another, and it worked fine. So I don't think its the power supply. I looked at the motherboard and there is no physical damage, no fried capacitors, nothing. However, testing the RAM I noticed that 1 pin on one of the ram sticks was burnt. I tried the other ram but it was still no go.

I noticed that the wire connecting the power button to the motherboard was completely destroyed. I don't know how this happened, my brother and I are the only ones who work on this computer. Could this be the problem? I have a hunch it is, but I don't what it is called or where I could purchase it. Anyone know? Or better yet, anyone know of some online sites that sell it? Thanks a bunch.

And would this be a logical solution to my problem? I mean one of the wires looks as if it has been chewed off. :(

Thanks,
-Jimmy

"Wire connecting power button to motherboard was completely destroyed" as in burned? If so, there is a major problem with the electrical system. In any event, the PC won't start of that circuit is broken.

Burned, no. The wires were torn, the actual wire inside the cable was exposed and all ripped up. Like I said, it appeared as if it had been chewed. :(

So, yeah? It wont start...do you know what it is called? Thanks..

ok well it sounds like a rat or something got into your comp, not good. my suggestion would be to get a new case/psu. you can get a cheap one that works well at newegg.com for about 20 bucks, that is what i got and it is a great full tower that does the job. that way you have a new psu and the connector that got messed up (which i garantee is the problem) will be replaced. if this connector got tore up while connected it might have messed up the psu as well. and i don't know if they sell just that connector as it is connected to the led and button on the case. but at new egg you can get a 350 w psu and case for 20 bucks so it is not a great loss, hope this helps

If newegg sells individual electric wires, I don't think it's a good idea to buy one, it would be very hard to place it properly, and another electric accident would be completely fatal. The best thing to do is to buy a power supplie and another RAM card. But try to know if there is another damaged piece. When you tried the PS on another motherboard, did you used the power button toward the computer or the power switch in the back. (Or both if it was an older computer without a power switch) It could make the difference wether the damaged wire is so important to start the computer. Well, I could be wrong, because I'm not sure I understood perfectly the description.
