No OS found on windows xp

May 8, 2009 at 14:09:31
Specs: Windows XP
My computer was working fine (gateway laptop)

Turned it off, now the gateway screen comes up and the blue line at the bottom goes 1/2 way and stops. then does some stuff and says No Operating System found, on a black screen.

Then I have no options from that point.

Was working fine, didn't open anything bad, drop or harm my laptop.

What to I do? I have my start up disc, but it won't go past that screen, so I can't even re install the disc.

Help. I'm getting frustrated.

K

Can you get into the BIOS and see if the hard drive appears there ?

Can't get into it now. At start up, Gateway appears on black screen, shows options for Boot Menu F10 or BIOS F2.

Will let me hit F10, but when I hit F2, says please wait, then nothing.

Do you have blackberry? I've been sitting here for hrs. trying to fix this stupid thing.

When you hit F10, do you see the hard drive listed in the boot menu ?

when I hit F10, says:

CPU=1 Processors detected, cores per processor = 2

Ram passed, SRAM passed. System BIOS shadowed, video BIOS shadowed.

Press F2 to enter set up (when I do, nothing happens)

If you cannot get into the BIOs, I'm wondering if it could be a bad CMOS battery.
