I just finished building my new PC and have one problem I can't figure out. The BIOS is Phoenix Award Workstation 6.00PG (that's what appears at startup). The motherboard is MSI K9VGM-V. I have looked all through the BIOS and can't find any option to disable the floppy seek. I've searched the MSI and Phoenix/Award sites with no luck. I even found a PDF manual for this BIOS and mine doesn't have the same options. This is a brand new home build, not a branded computer, so there shouldn't be anything locked or hidden in the BIOS, right? I think I'm doing pretty good to only have this one problem, but my floppy is especially loud, so I'd love to get rid of that annoying sound at startup. Any help would be appreciated.

That may be due to the "Workstation" in the BIOS version. I am running an AMD 64 with Phoenix Award BIOS v 6.00PG and I do have the normal options.

You could disable the floppy controller in the BIOS or maybe taking the floppy out of the boot order would do something.

You can always enable the floppy when needed. I usually setup my boot order = first device= disabled, second device= CD, third device= HD. Then if I need to use the floppy drive I just enable it as the first device.

The simplest way would be to take it out of the Boot order as posted by OtheHill.

That Bios i think has no Disable Ability.

I tried taking it out of the boot order already, forgot to mention that. From what I understand, the floppy seek is something from the old days to check what size drive you have, not anything to do with the boot order (and not needed nowadays anyway, so why can't they just stop putting it in the bios, LOL).

I did wonder about Workstation. I think the bios instructions I looked at were like OtheHill's, with no Workstation in the name. I suppose I shouldn't mess around and try to update my bios since it's such a tiny problem.

I guess my only options will end up being to disable the floppy completely, or just ignore the sound. As I said before, so far that's not bad if it's my only annoyance with this new build.

I'm loading programs and all that fun stuff right now, but will try disabling tomorrow just to see what happens. I wasn't expecting replies so quickly. Thanks for the input!
