Hi Roxann Check in the back of the computer to see if the mouse cable fell out or is loose. It plugs in right next to the keyboard cable. I'm sure that's what it is.

Try the mouse in another computer. Try a known working mouse in your computer. Make sure it plugged in properly. Buy another mouse!

Well, if you're sure that it's plugged in correctly (because it DOES have to orientated properly in the port), then I'd say the mouse port is no good. If you don't want to install a whole new motherboard, get a serial mouse. It will connect to your serial port (9 pin connector on back of PC). Or better yet, if you have USB ports on your PC, get a USB mouse. USB ports are vertical slots about a 1/2 inch long on the back of the PC. There are usually 2 of them next to each other.

If it's a PS2 mouse then hot plugging it will blow the mouse port on the mobo. If this is the case then you'll have to use a serial mouse as Raincheck says.

I must be very lucky. I have hot-plugged my mouse and keyboard laods of times on my motherboard (ABIT KT7A-Raid) with no ill effect.
