I've got a strange problem here that I can't quite figure out: this computer's PS/2 mouse port seems to have broken somehow. Any mouse I connect only allows left or right clicking, no actual axis movement. This is definitely not a software problem, both Windows and GNU/Linux treats it the same.
I've tried numerous PS/2 mice, but don't have a working USB mouse to test right now (I'm guessing that'd work). Oh, the PS/2 ports aren't connected in reverse and all of the pins are straight and true.
My only guess is the physical PS/2 port, or a few pins in it, have ruptured the connection or something. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
James

Do you know how to navigate in windows to accessibility options in control panel... there is an option in there to use your numpad arrows as mouse movement. Thats a workaround solution till you do get a USB mouse.
My guess would also be hardware failure on the PS/2 port but just incase, with the mousekeys you can navigate to the system/device manager and try reinstalling/updating the mouse drivers.

Hi Matt,
Yeah I was using "Mouse Keys" temporarily in combination with alt, tab and shift keys to navigate between form elements. (The shortcut is Alt + Shift + Numlock.)
Well, the problem seems to have been solved now. There was something physically wedged in the corner of the PS/2 port, like a tiny bit of Blutack or something! Also, the drivers on the system were quite "mucked up" to say the least. Oh, and both the mice I was using had developed a fault. How unlucky.
Thanks,
James
