Comment: I am in need of a restoration disk for HP Pavilion 7800. The orginal software and disks that came with the pc is lost as well. I had hopes that I might be able to find what I needed online, or get help from HP. Though I found upgrades, without the restoration disk I wouldn't be able to adequately operate this pc. From what I have found on the HP website about the Pavilion 7800, I have a cd-plus burner, dvd/cd-rom, decent monitor (appears to be the one that came with it) and the hp keyboard. The HD is 27.9g, AMD Duron 750, I am not sure of the MB. I really hope that someone here can help me. I have come to Computing.Net several times before, and have a lot of faith in the advice here. ::knocking on wood:: Hoping there is a way around this. *sigh*

Reply: (edit)oh I am sorry...I was trying to think of everything that might be needed here. I never thought of my OS system DUH. I reformated it, and put my Windows ME on it. It seems that without the recovery disks, nothing works properly. I am assuming that the disks would have the programs/drivers for the hardware (cd-rom, dvd, cd-burner, display adapter). I'm not very good at this pc stuff, but I have someone at home who tries to help me. (he does all the dirty work) sorry for being so evasive, I hope this helped. Thanks so much for your quick reply!! bless you

Reply: (edit)Hello Topfarmer, I am not always perfect in explaining myself. I do have a windows ME disk. I bought this computer from a pawn shop, as is. Everything included except the mouse and cds that came with the orginal package. It is a HP Pavilion 7800, AMD Duron 750, 29.7gig HD, it was packaged with a cd/dvd rom, cd-burner. We formated the HD because it had a lot of problems, and installed my winME. I went to HP website and tried to update anything they had for this pc. They weren't all that helpful, because without the orginal restoration disk for this pc (the one that was shipped with it) I am not able to use the dvd or the cd-burner. I don't much care about the packaged software that came on it, but am concerned about the programs and drivers that this pc needs to operate. The display adapter isn't working correctly, the sound has problems, drivers for the cd-rom/cd-burner aren't right, and without their programs, I can't use them. I came to this forum hoping to find a solution, and read in an old message (2001) where someone said they had HP restoration disks. This gave me hope that maybe I might find an answer. HP website wasn't much help, because of problems that their disks had (some not even working at all, older machine blah blah) a lot of excuses, but no suggestions. So basically, what I am looking for is just a HP restoration disk that would work for a Pavilion 7800. I borrowed my friend's and as my luck would have it, it wouldn't work since their pc was a Pavilion 6000 series. duh Sorry this was so long, I was trying my best to explain myself. *s*

Reply: (edit)The restoration CD probably has the drivers you need for your CD and DVD drives, but you can probably get them directly from the manufacturer's of the drives themselves. Even thought the front of the CD player says HP it is not made by them. HP (and every other manufacturer out there) only assemble parts from other manufacturers amd stamp their name on it. The DVD on my old HP is made by LG. If worse comes to worse, open that baby up and find serial numbers on the hardware that is giving you problems. A few yahoo searches later and you should be able to find the manufacturer's name, website, and updated drivers.
