No hardware detection on European notebook

October 9, 2010 at 08:29:15
Specs: XP home Edition SP 2, 2002, Intel Celeron M 1.40GHz, 1.24 GB of RAM

I had family come from Europe and was asked to format a notebook and reinstall Windows XP (same operating system as was on it) because there were many virus' and myriad other issues. The format and reinstallation went fine but after coming to the desktop at last I found that no hardware was detected. Bluetooth, wireless adapter, ethernet, sound card etc.

This notebook was constructed in the Czech Republic and modified with RAM in the UK. I'm not sure if this has something to do with it.

What am I looking at here? At this point I am taking a screwdriver to it to find out what the components are exactly and then downloading drivers on my own desktop, transfer them via USB to the notebook and see if that does anything.

Any ideas would be well nice.

Edit: Just want to clarify that the XP Home edition I put on the notebook is from a CD bought here in North America. Also, my cousins notebook is quite aged, 2004 I think, HP Compaq nc6120 built in Czech Republic.
