Comment: Toshiba Satelite Pro 400 CDT laptop. 75mhz (I think) Internal CD-ROM External Floppy Drive Picked up laptop at computer show (cheap) Able to boot to Dos using Floppy drive and Windows 98se startup disk. When I try FDISK recive: " No fixed disk present". Checked bios/cmos does not show having hard drive. Checked hard drive connection It is good. Using hard drive connection cable hooked the laptop hard drive up to my desk PC and it booted up fine (Windows 98). Tried another hard drive in the laptop (one from another laptop running Windows 98SE)still "No fixed disk present". In bios/cmos unable to do anything to the HD function it just jumps past it. When I try starting up the system (normal startup) Long wait befor anything happens then recive the following: memory initialized 16192KB again long wait then: Insert system disk. Press any key when ready... Other times, have also recived something about checksum not correct or something (forgot). Any ideas??? Again hard drive IS good, connection is tight.

Reply: (edit)Picked it up at computer show, have no idea how old it is, but being a 75mhz and not having any USB ports says OLD. Hard drive is unknown as well can tell you it is a 3.01 GB The PC I tried the hard drive on and was able to boot it is about 5 years old Compaq 366mhz

Reply: (edit)Nothing yet. But would like to get it up and running. Then maybe use it just for suring around the net, IMing, and that's about all it would be good for (I think).

Reply: (edit)Like heck the cmos battery won't cause problems. Of course it will. Many older machines, desktop and laptop alike, do not auto detect the hd's in bios. You have to go in there to bios/setup and TELL the thing what you have. Then, when the first ones came out that could autodetect, many werer still not smart enough to "set" the detected hd into bios. After you ran bios/setup, you had to "save" the settings, otherwise when you booted back up it would not know what you had. Change the bios battery.
