OS: Windows XP Professional
CPU/Ram: Pentium 4....512MB DDR
Model/Manufacturer: Sony Vaio
Comment:
Hello,

My roommate moved away and gave me his Sony Vaio that he didn't use anymore. I re-installed Windows XP, and everything was working fine, but then the computer shut off. Now everytime I turn the computer on, it sounds like its running normal, but nothing displays on my monitor, and the computer goes on standby. I got the screen to display a couple of times after it happend the first time, but now it just stays on standby.

I thought maybe it was just my monitor or my graphics card, or even the RAM, but I tested everything on my other computer--and everythings fine. I'm not sure what it is, and my roommate never messed with it... please help!

I am a noob, so if you could explain as much as possible that would be great! Thanks guys!!

Is this a laptop? If so, the cable from the base to screen is problematic on laptops. Try moving the screen slightly to see if it then displays.

No, it's a desktop. I've also tried other monitors, and it acts the same on those...

Do you have two monitor ports on the back? If so, try the other one.

As above.

Try using the funciton keys. Usually a set of keys to change the contrast and brightness.

Might get a bootable floppy or cd and see if the display shows. No need to install anything just see if you can get something to show.

Try the bios access keystroke also. Might be a F2 key at boot time or delete key.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

I just reset the cmos, and it finally displayed on my monitor--for alittle bit. I put in a boot disk, and it said checking computers configuration, and just went to a black screen. Now everytime I start it... once again nothing shows on the monitor. Help please!
