Comment:

Recently I bought a new case and have moved all my parts into this new case with a 400W power supply instead of my previous 300W power supply. Now when I boot up, Nothing comes up on the screen. The CPU fan spins and so does the Graphics card fan (Ge-force 4 MX440). At first I thought it could be a monitor problem so i tried another monitor and the same thing happened. Then i thought the video card could be affecting it so i put that into another computer, but it worked fine. One thing i have noticed is that the HDD LED flashes at the very start when i press the power button, and then a couple of seconds later, but after that does not continue to flash as normal to boot up windows. i am very worried that i might have damaged something while moving between cases, however i was very careful and have done it a million times b4. please help. thanx in advance

Can you get your BIOS up on the screen .It maybe that you need to change a setting in the BIOS ? Did you document your CMOS settings B/4 this action .Try resetting the CNMOS by removing the coin battery for a couple of minutes and placing it back in ,then booting to the BIOS ! Also check the specs for your M.B. !
Good Luck ,Nick

A million times, really?
If you don't get a POST beep, the system is dead.
Is it possible that a motherboard mounting stud was put in the wrong place?

I have the same problem with one of my old PC'S.

Is the post beep that beep it makes when it starts to do the memory check?

Also what is the motherboard mounting stud exatly i have a rough idea?

When you say the system is dead, what is dead?? like what would need to be replaced.

no i cant get the bios up on screen. I see nothing at all.
I tried using the bare minimum to start it up - m/b, cpu, pwr supply, ram, Video - hoping that something would come up with an error, something like u have no hard drive or whatever, but it still did the same thing.

i wish i had an old vga card to test, but i dont coz every other one i have is onboard video.

ill try that CMOS thing and get back to u.

thanx for the quick replies

cheers

I have the same problem. Did you find any solution to yours?

In my case I have a 4-yr PC that failed to boot OS. So I set it aside for a while. Now I went back to it and I don't get any display at all.
I've verified monitor, video card, etc. Power supply looks good, CPU fan on, CDROM LED flashes. No hard disk LED, monitor is black. Any idea?

yeh i did figure out the problem. unfortunately it was a fried motherboard. i have no idea how it happened but when i took it to the shop i got the parts from he tested it and found out the motherboard was dead. he gave me a new motherboard a model up and installed it all for $45 (AUS). he said it was because it was a better motherboard but i think he charged for installation more than nething else.

just a question actually, he said i was using the wrong ribbon cable for my hard drive. i thought a ribbon cable was a ribbon cable, but apparently the way he did it would make it faster. i cant tell ne different. is that true?
