I want to format my HDD but I experience one problem: I boot from a Win Me startup disk with CD-ROM support but the driver cannot find any drives in my computer! It’s really strange because the last time I boot with the same disk in the same computer everything was normal! I tried with a friend’s disk but same problem. Is it because I updated BIOS?

It's because you are using NTFS. The WinME and Win9X floppies cannot handle NTFS drives. Boot from the WinXK CD and select a new install. The install will format the drive before installing.
To just format, you can download and run DelPart. It will remove the NTFS partition. If you want to partition as Fat32, use fdisk. You can then format as Fat32.
