Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers - KB Article - 300428

2000-0148 = IDE error

How to Fix:

Remove and reinstall the CD/DVD Drive for the error codes:

* 1000-0147
* 2000-0147
* 1000-0148
* 2000-0148
* 2000-0149

Please see the Service manual for instructions on how to remove and replace the CD/DVD Drive. Be sure to remove and reinstall the cables for the CD/DVD Drive if you are on a Desktop Computer.

This is a Dell ONLY error code.

To find the Service manual for your model, simply search the web using:

(name and model of Dell computer) manuals

e.g. Inspiron xxx manuals

One of the first few "hits" will be the Dell manuals for your model.
If you find the page with all the manuals, the Service manual is at the Documentation link.

If you're not sure what your specific model is,
Go here for how to find the Service tag "number":

Use that Service tag "number" to search the Dell site for support for your model.
The specific model number is obvious on the first resulting page you see.

If doing that doesn't help, you either need to replace the optical drive because it's defective, or there is something else seriously wrong with the hardware on your laptop.
