Okay, I have this old computer that belongs to me and on wich I work on my projects that dont take a lot of resources (I use my familly computer for online projects and projects that use a lot of resources)
But I have a problem concerning the detection of disk drives.
Sometimes I would let my computer on for a long time, and when restarting, it would just not detect one of the disk drives.
Sometimes it says "Floppy Disk Fail", sometimes it doesnt detect my master (Hard disk drive) or my slave (CD drive). If I unplug and replug the large gray plugs sometimes it will start working again, but after a certain time they wont work anymore unless I do it again (And they are ALWAYS plugged in the right direction, I assure you. I checked them all. If they were not in the right direction, they would never work instead of just randomly stop working.)
It's really annoying to have to play around, even if it's just to change nothing in the connexions, with every boot, especially when I can't even start my computer because the hard disk is not detected. Im also worried about the security of my data. Can someone help me, please?
Thanks in advance.

The controller(s) on the board might be heading south, but I'll suggest just replacing the IDE cables for now just to see.
