Okay, put this thing together finally. An AMD Athlon 950 with a NEW power supply since the old one was making nice burning smells. So for the whole night while I was in the kitchen installing stuff it worked perfect (about 2 hours). Then I move it to a different room and hook it up and now it won't work. Two problems: 1) No go, no beeps (MSI Athlon motherboard) and 2) When I hold down the power button to turn it off it shuts off but the power button is still glowing green for some reason...
Anyway when I turn it on power comes on, CPU fan spins...then it all sits there doing nothing....monitor sits blank and has an orange light not a green one. Tried different monitor, same. Tried different video card, same. Isn't the PSU since it's new (no smells either). I checked all the connections they're fine. Could the power button thing have something to do with it? I know that isn't right...
Thanks,
Smith

It doesn't hurt to double check all cables, reseat RAM and CPU.
Make sure PC is not plugged in close or in same circuit with an air conditioning or a fridge.
Also check Power Supply voltage.

Well, you've already ruled out the video and power supply.
The only thing I can suspect is that there is an intermittent problem that comes and goes. These type of malfunctions are very hard to chase down.
Do you at least get the BIOS beeps when you power up? If not, then you may have a dead mobo.
Robertt is right...make sure the cards and plugs are A-OK. If possible, swap the CPU and RAM into a known good machine. That would either confirm or rule out those components.
I suspect the failure of the previous power supply damaged something.
Good luck! Drop by again if you need help.

hello
on the grounds that the new wall plug has a ground fault problem. you can buy a cheep tester and test the integerity of the wall plug or just move the computer back to the old plug and try it. some older homes have had some veary streange wirering done to them.

Nope, no beeps. The power light stays on after I turn it off, which really bugs me. I'm going to pull off the front and see if something is loose. My PSU is set to 115. And it was plugged in alone in both rooms. I moved it back to the other room where it worked before and it still won't work again. I've reset it all. I'll do it again, I'm desperate. The parts work in another machine, except I don't have a computer I can swap the CPU into, it's an AMD, I've only got Pentium boards around. I'll let you know how it goes...
