Hello,

My computer specs are:

Asus A7V266 mainboard
Athlon XP 1700+ (or in that family, anyway)
512MB 133MHz DDR RAM
Matrox G400 video
D-LINK DFE-530TX network

The problem is, that when powered up, the hdd spins up, and the network card light flashes (as it normally does when powered up), but then a second later the hdd starts to spin down and the light goes out, then a second after that it goes on again, and so on. Video never comes up, and there are no beeps to indicate what kind of problem I'm looking at.

Now, before this happened, the CPU fan had seemed to be dying, sometimes slowing down when running. Other than this, business as usual.

So, I have taken everything out, cleaned the contacts thoroughly, and reassembled. The problem persists.

The only thing I can think is that the dying fan somehow damaged some component (mainboard, I guess, since no beeps). But I have no way to know for sure without buying another and testing.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

P.S. Sorry if this is already answered, I wasn't able to find it with the search, maybe using the wrong search terms...

Sounds like you have a failed power supply.

If you dont have a spare, when you go buy one they usually let you return it if that is not the problem...

at least they do here.

Have you had any electrical outages or surges in the house lately?

That will cause them to burn out.

Good Luck

I just got done fixing this problem on my computer. Try unplugging the power cords from all cd-roms, floppy drives, etc. then try using different ones for your hard drive until you can get it to work. If that doesn't seem to work, try plugging your video card into a new slot on the motherboard. I had the same problem with both the video card and power cords.
