Well i am a first time builder and i just puchase everything online and started to put the following together:

amd athlon xp 2600+ --Cpu
asus A7N8X Deluxe --Mobo
asus V9280td geforce 4 ti4200 128mb --graghic card
enermax cs-3191l-b8a --case
cooljag amd (cpu fan)
1 512mb ddr pc-2700 -- ram (k-byte)
maxator 80Gb 7200rpm --hhd
cd-cdr
floppy

when everything was plugged i turned on the power and all the fan started to turn on but there were no beep and nothing at all appearing on the screen? The cd works, lights works, so does all the fans but no beeps whatsoever. i redid the cpu fan and cpu and thought i might have put too much thermal compond on and may burned the cpu? But the cpu was turned on for about 20 second when i heard no beep i turned it immediatly off!

Let me know what you all think? need help quick!!!!!!!!!

Hmm. You should get some sort of beeps regardless. Well, Award BIOS's sometimes now have no beeps UNLESS the video card fails. The A7N8X Uses a Phoenix bios anyway.

Is the internal speaker connected? Thats where the beep would come from.

Hi Kevin. I just went through the same thing, so I know how you feel. My solution was to replace my old video board with a newer agp board, and reseat everything. Back down to just one stick of memory, no drives, thew cpu and the video board. Make sure the speaker is plugged in, or no beeps, as noted. You should at least get something on the screen this way. I don't think you caused any problem with the thermal paste. Don't use too much, tho. It is a grease and becomes an insulator when applied too thickly. You have to take it a step at a time, and be patient. Let us know here how your doing. We all love to help.

thanks for your advice,
i have already unplugged everything and replugging them with just the cpu, graphic card, and memory on but it still has no beeps and the screen is blank.
I think that the motherboard is bad since it should give you a beep even if the video card isn't plugged or the ram with the motherboard special features.
i don't think that it is the cpu's problem because my friend came over with a working cpu and tested it out and it gave the same problems. let me know what you think?
