I have no sound and the device manager says i have no adio device. my computer has a built in speaker. i've installed driver detective and it didn't help, can you.

If it's on-board audio, check in cmos/bios setup and make sure the audio is enabled.

On a compaq it should be F10. Start tapping it before the OS starts to load. It's probably a good idea to check the manual to make sure there's nothing special you need to do.
