Hello.
I have recently bought an Abit NF7-s V2.0 motherboard and a 120GB seagate barracuda SATA hard drive. I'm having some problems getting the drive detected by windows XP pro (Non-Service Pack 1 CD version).

Bear in mind that this is a new computer and has nothing on it yet, so I can't do anything in windows.

I know that the Hard drive has power because I can feel it trying to boot at post. I have tried two different SATA data leads, both have the same results.

I have set the Sata adaptor to 'enabled' and the raid controller part to 'disabled' because I only have one hard drive.

CDROM is primary boot device, Serial ATA is secondary boot device.

When I reboot and windows enters the setup, if I press F6 to load other SCSI drivers etc. windows tells me it can't find any fixed disk and to press 's' to select the controller, I select the 2nd one down (silicon image sil 3112a SATA PCI controller for windows XP) and the floppy whirrs for a bit and a few things load, then windows says that it can't find any fixed disk press F3 to abort and restart machine??

If I set RAID to 'enabled' in the bios, it does the same thing, but asks me to start raid by pressing ctrl+s or F4, but that never finds the hdd either??

I have also tried running seatools utility (on two floppies) but it just sits there forever with SEAGATE across the screen and nothing else (no FDD/HDD lights flashing, progress bar etc) and FDISK (Win98SE CD)but it can't see the drive..

The motherboard manual is very vague and tells me all about how good SATA is and how to connect the leads up rather than what I need to know.

I downloaded the seagate diskwizard utility but you need to use it in windows??? what use it that to anyone??

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have a Belkin molex-to-SATA power adapter. I have tried using different data leads (one 0.45m that came with the motherboard, and one 0.20m, that I bought seperately) I am sure that both the data lead and power lead are plugged in snugly.

Is it possible to connect more than one power lead to the HDD??

Just posting back to say that I have fixed it. I found that the Molex connector from the PSU that the power adaptor was connected to was damaged. The red wire was broken, I transfered the adaptor onto another molex connector and it worked straight away. Thanks for the help.
