New system won't POST

I just built the following: Athlon 2500+ ECS L7S7A2 512 MB PC2700 RAM Crucial Chaintech GeForce Ti4200 AGP 8x
When I plug the HDD Led cable into the motherboard, the system won't POST. All the fans spin but there are no beep codes either. If I unplug the HDD Led everything boots fine. the same thing happens with the card reader (which came w/ the motherboard) if I plug it into the USB1 port on the motherboard. Any idea why this is happening? I thought maybe I plugged it in wrong but I tried both ways with the HDD Led. How do you know which cable is pin 1 on these? Thanks!

well i have the EXACT same setup except for the processor, i have 2000+. look in the manual and it will say what pins go to what, and it should say the polarity of each (+ and -). then look at your connector, there should either be a plus or a star or something which is the + side of the connector. make sure that side is with the pin the the mobo manual says is the plus side pin. on occation the connector has the minus side marked with the -. in that case plug in accordingly, hope this helps

Thanks Tony, I'll try that. Do you know if this motherboard has some feature that prevents it from posting if a connector is plugged in the wrong way? Maybe it is a safety feature if a connection isn't grounded properly.

could be, not sure, the only problem i had installing that mobo was the fact that the face plate thing did not fit in the back of my mobo well and i ended jacking up the onboard lan, but a 10 buck nic card fixed that. i imagine it does as most do, however i think you would get power but it wouldn't post. my roomate had a gounding problem with his mobo (different type) and he got power but no post. however if you said the power connector to the fron of the case is chewed up then that HAS to be the problem, it will not turn on if that is not connected right, hope this helps
