New System won't boot

Specs: N/A
Hey I just bought a new system but for some reason it just will not boot up. None of the fan spins when i try to boot it up. However, the standby light on the MOBO is on when the power supply is turned on. I have removed all other hardware and have tried reconnecting all the wires but it still will not boot. Is the problem because of a defective MOBO or power supply?

I have an MSI eclipse with Intel i7 920 and 550W power supply

If you just bought it & it's "brand new", why are you tearing into it. Take it back!

Do you have all the power connectors connected to the motherboard?

Modern boards have 20/24 pin main power header and additional 4 pin 12v header. Failure to correctly attach the 12v header can cause the symptoms described.

Also, if you have a haw spec graphics card they can require their own 4 pin molex connector draining power from the PSU.

As the previous poster suggested, I'd take it back. Your PSU could be faulty. The supplier will be able to test it with a multi meter.
